addyleigh: I love this. Throughout the first three books, Roland is more or less the unstoppable warrior on a nearly impossible quest. By book four, we see Roland as more human, more relatable. We see him as someone who has lived a life that has fallen short of simple or easy. In book five, his human nature is all too tangible. We now know of his heartaches, his guilt, his painful past and dangerous future. His development from unstoppable to almost fragile is hard to follow. Hard to believe. Here is our hero, suffering pains and aches just like the rest of us. That is why I love this picture so much. His humanness is just so…tangible as he kneels at the rose.
